The Nemaha Central Middle School football team faced off against Holton on Thursday, September 26, 2024. NC’s record is 0-3 going into the game, but they are hoping to turn this season around.
To begin the game, NC received the ball but was quickly stopped by the Wildcat defense. After four downs, Holton attempted to move the ball downfield but the Thunder defense held strong. The ball continued to change hands a few more times, but both teams were unable to score.
Both teams continued to battle back and forth in the second quarter. Right before the half, NC had a 60 yard run by Tate Edelman to get into the red zone. On the next play, Holton picked off the ball on a jet sweep pass and ran back for a touchdown. They successfully made the two-point conversion and the half ended 0-8 in favor of the Wildcats.
Tate Edelman said, “If it weren’t for the blocking and effort on the play I wouldn't have made it as far as I did.”
NC started the third quarter by kicking the ball to Holton. For the first few minutes of the half, both teams turned the ball over on downs. The Wildcats got something going towards the end of the quarter and made it down the field for a touchdown. Holton couldn’t connect on the two-point conversion and the quarter ended 0-14.
The Thunder started with the ball in the fourth quarter and made it down the field. NC threw the ball to make a touchdown but wasn’t able to convert on the two-point conversion. Holton retaliated by getting a touchdown of their own and making the two-point conversion. NC had another chance and made it down the field but ran out of time to get another touchdown. The game ended with a Thunder loss, 6-22.
Landen Stallbaumer said, “ We were hyped up after Brent scored the touchdown.”
NC has not had the best start of their season going 0-4 but are improving in each game and hoping to get their first win of the season.
