The Nemaha Central Middle School football team traveled to Silver Lake on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Their record going into the game was 0-2 and they were looking to get their first win of the season.
The first quarter didn’t go as planned. The Eagles started strong putting up eight points in the first ten seconds. NC tried to move the ball upfield but couldn’t ever quite execute. The Eagles didn’t stop there. They scored two more touchdowns before the end of the first quarter taking a 22-0 lead.
The second quarter didn’t go as well for the Thunder. They tried to move the ball but couldn’t gain a first down. A couple of minutes into the second quarter the Eagles ran the ball in for a touchdown. NC stopped the Eagle two-point conversion. It was a defensive battle for the rest of the quarter as the half ended 28-0.
The Thunder started strong with a good return to kick off the third quarter. NC had a couple of good runs but was stopped short from getting the first down. A couple of minutes later Silver Lake had a good drive and scored. The Eagles went for the two-point conversion and converted it making the score 36-0. Offensively neither team could get anything going the rest of the quarter.
The fourth quarter started well with an awesome drive by the Thunder. The Thunder kept pushing the ball down the field. When close to the red zone, Levi Holthaus threw a pass to Ethan Jost for a touchdown. NC went for the two-point conversion and converted it to make the score 38-8 Silver Lake. Silver Lake scored one more time in the quarter making the final score 46-8.
‘‘I felt accomplished because it was my first middle school touchdown pass,’’ said Levi Holthaus.
‘‘We tried our best but didn't succeed,’’ said Trent Stuke.
