The Nemaha Central Middle School cross country team raced at the Cedar Hills Golf Course in Washington on Monday, September 23, 2024. Their competition had athletes from Linn, Pike Valley, Washington County, Luckey, Hanover, Riley County, Blue Valley, Clifton Clyde, and Valley Heights.
The girl's race was the evening's first 2 mile race, and NCMS had two girls competing with 44 other athletes. Cora Langill finished third with a time of 14:16 and Claire Sourk finished 22nd with a time of 17:44. The girls felt good about their race and were happy it was over with.
“The course was tough but I still had fun,” said Claire Sourk, eighth grade.
The boy's race started after the girls and NCMS had one boy running against 35 other runners. Ethan Jost earned ninth place with a time of 13:41. Ethan was happy to place, especially as a seventh grader racing against both seventh and eighth graders.
The runners all felt good about their times and their placings in the upper half. The runners will continue their training and will work on improving their run throughout the rest of the season.
