The Nemaha Central Middle School volleyball girls played at home on Thursday, September 12, 2024 against Atchison. This was the first home match of the season and the team was excited to play in front of their home crowd.
Nemaha Central's eighth grade B-team was looking for their first match win. In the first set, the Thunder came up short 16-25. The girls came back in the second set to get the win 25-17. The third set was a lot closer but NC prevailed 16-14 to get the match win. Walking off the court, the girls were overcome with excitement because they picked up their first win of the season.
“We didn’t give up and won,” said Zoey Streeter, eighth grade.
The NC eighth grade A-team won their first set easily with a score of 25-13. In the second set, they lost 16-25. Going into the third set for the match win, the Thunder team was a bit nervous but pulled it together for a 15-7 win. Alyssa Griffith had some strong kills against Atchison to assist with the win. The Thunder team was pumped that they had defeated Atchison.
The NC seventh grade A-team was victorious against Atchison with scores of 25-14 in the first set, 25-19 in the second set, and 15-8 in the third set. They won all of their sets and were excited to remain undefeated. The girls had several kills and aces that put them over the moon with excitement.
The seventh grade B-team won the first 2 sets of their match. The score in the first set was 25-15. After winning their first set, the girls gained confidence going into the second set. The second set went well for the team with another win, 25-19. The teams played a third set which resulted in a 13-15 loss, but NC was still victorious in the match.
“It was fun spending time with my teammates,” said Ava Madrid, seventh grade.
All of the volleyball teams had an amazing night and swept Atchison.
