NC Player Hitting the Ball

On September 9, 2024 the Nemaha Central Middle School volleyball team was excited to play their second volleyball match of the season. The volleyball game was hosted by the Rossville Bulldogs. The team arrived pumped up hoping for a win.

The NC eighth grade B-team started off not so great, losing the first set 16-25. They worked harder in the second set hoping to get a win but lost 20-25. Zoey Streeter had an amazing hit in the set. The teams played a third set in which the Thunder lost, 6-15.

Across the gym, the eighth grade A-team confidently stepped on the court. They were feeling a little more warmed up after the B-team match. Even though Rossville had a great hitter, Olivia Hermesch was able to get some great digs to keep the ball in play. The first set for the A-team resulted in an 11-25 loss. Even though they lost, they worked hard to rebound to their level of play. Next, in the second set, there were some amazing hits from Alyssa Griffith, but it wasn’t enough as the score ended 20-25. In the third set, the Thunder tried to get a win but lost a close one, 10-15.

Piper Hiltgen said, “I think we played well, but we could have played better.”

The seventh grade A-team was rolling in their first set winning 25-11. Keeping up their focus, they won the closer second set 25-21. Lastly, the third set ended up with another win for the Thunder 15-9. They were very excited and ready to cheer on the seventh grade B-team as they started warming up.

The seventh grade B-team was all warmed up and ready to play the Rossville. Their first set ended with a win 25-20. They were all ready for their second set hoping for a win. Their second set concluded with another win, 25-20. The last set began with everyone pumped up, and ready to play. It came to an end with another Thunder win 15-11.

Lillian Deters said, “It was much better than the last match because we played well and won.”

This was the second match of the season and the NC teams have found skills they can improve on. The teams are determined to improve and show what they have practiced in the next game.
