The Nemaha Central Middle School (NCMS) cross country team traveled to Marysville on Saturday, September 9, 2024 for their first meet of the season. Participating teams were the following: Doniphan West, Horton, Washington County, Riley County, Marysville, Troy, Hanover, and NC. The team, coached by Jon Thomas, consists of 3 eighth graders and 2 seventh graders.
The race was two miles for both the boys and the girls. Cora Langill came in first out of 35 athletes with a great time of 13:16. The next runner from NC to finish was Aubrey Wood, who came in ninth place with a time of 15:09. Claire Sourk finished in 13th with a time of 15:22 and right behind her was Anna Jost with a time of 15:39 to claim 14th place. The only boy runner was 7th grader Ethan Jost, who finished 12th out of 34 runners with a time of 13:41.
Although the hills were tough, the team had lots of fun running and enjoyed the nice weather.
Anna Jost, eighth grader, stated, “It was a beautiful, cool day for running. At one point during the race, I almost slipped on a little bridge we ran across.”
The team might be small, but they finished in the top half of all the runners. All of the athletes look forward to their next meet and are working hard to improve their times.
