NCMS Annual "Can the Teacher" Event

The Nemaha Central Middle School annual "Can the Teacher" event occurred on Tuesday, November 26. Middle school students were encouraged to bring canned goods, boxed foods, toilet paper, and paper towels to school between November 18 and November 26. If the students could stack the non-perishable items to block the teachers’ doors, they would not have regular classes for the day.

The first thing the students did that morning was attendance, then they got the food items their class collected and stacked them. The students canned all their teachers' doors, so they were able to watch a movie at the movie theater. The students watched the movie Playing with Fire, and were treated with a pop and popcorn if they paid two dollars.

Abram Keim said, “The movie was exceptionally good, and I liked it a lot.”

After the movie, the students basically spent the rest of the day as free time to do whatever. The students could also help decorate their first hour teacher’s door if they wanted to.

Jolie Jones said, “It was fun, exciting, and it was a great first experience.”

The students were dismissed at 11:30 that morning beginning thanksgiving break. In total, the students brought in 1,226 non-perishable food items for the Nemaha County food bank. Way to give back Nemaha Central Middle School!
