The Nemaha Central Middle School cross country team headed to Hiawatha on Thursday, September 19. The cross country meet had five runners from NCMS. The runners were Lane Mosteller, Maddy Mosteller, Joe Korber, Hailey Nordhus, and Presley Lutz. Other teams participating were Royal Valley, Silver Lake, Holton, Hiawatha, Nemaha Central, Pawnee City, Falls City, Atchison County, and Everest.
There were 21 runners in the 7th grade competition and Maddy Mosteller came in 5th place with a time of 16:33, while Presley Lutz came in at 13th place with a time of 18:59. In the 7th grade boys competition there were 34 boys competing and Lane Mosteller came in 2nd with a time of 13:46.
For the eighth grade girls, there were 14 runners and Hailey Nordhus came in 3rd with a time of 14:49. In the eighth grade boys competition there were 42 runners and Joe Korber came in 38th with a time of 17:32.
“Even though it was hot, I think we did a really good job,” said Joe Korber.
The NCMS cross country team had an excellent meet with several athletes placing. All in all, the athletes are improving their times and stretching their endurance.
