The Nemaha Central Middle School Lady Thunder volleyball team took on the Royal Valley Panthers on Monday, September 23. The eighth grade teams played their matches in Mayetta, while the seventh grade teams played in Hoyt.
The match started out rough for the eighth grade A-team as they lost their first set,14-25. They won their second set, 25-19 by talking more on the court and moving their feet to get to the ball. In the third set, the Thunder battled for the win but came up short losing 11-15. Kylee Sperfslage and Mya Ganstrom had some great hits in the match.
Ashlyn Gudenkauf said, “We did not play our best game, but we can always improve from our mistakes.”
The eighth grade B-Team started out the match leading the Panthers due to some great serving rallies by Kate Heinen and Emma Stallbaumer. They continued their great level of play by taking the second set 25-12. In the third set, the Thunder girls did not let up as they dominated the Panthers with a score of 15-5.
The seventh grade A-team had a clean sweep against Royal Valley. They started off their first set with a win, 25-16. They kept putting the pressure on the Panthers and won their second set, 25-18. They cleaned up with a win in the third set 15-10.
Carli Rottinghaus said, “Both teams played well and I am glad we pulled out a win.”
The seventh grade B-team also had a clean sweep against Royal Valley. The Panthers came close to taking the first set, but the Thunder pulled out a win, 25-21. The Thunder team pressured the Panthers until the end of the second set to get win, 25-20. They finished the night with a win in the third set 15-5.
The Nemaha Central Middle School Lady Thunder eighth grade A-team is 1-4 in the regular Big 7 season, but 6-4 overall. The eighth grade B-team, seventh grade A-team, and seventh grade B-team are all undefeated with a record of 5-0 in the Big 7 League.
