The Nemaha Central Middle School Cross Country athletes took part in a meet that only middle school athletes competed at on Monday, September 16 at Jackson Heights Schools. Other schools in attendance were Royal Valley, ACCMS, Holton, Jeff West, McLouth, Doniphan West, Everest, Pleasant Ridge, Oskaloosa, St. Benedict, Topeka Public Middle Schools, and Jackson Heights.
When they arrived, the NC runners were able to get a good feel of the 2 mile course which had obstacles such as trees, gravel, and bridges by walking the course. There were 44 eighth grade male participants and among them were the two NC runners, John Langill and Joe Korber. Langill finished with a time of 13:52 to place 5th and medaled, while Korber placed 37th with a time of 19:32. Hailey Nordhus, NC's 8th grade girl runner ran a time of 15:41 finishing the race in 4th place out of 33 runners. Nordhus also received a medal for her performance.
The Nemaha Central seventh grade runners were Lane Mosteller, Kaden Peterson, Will Nolte, and Presley Lutz. Madi Mosteller was ill and did not run at this meet. There were 57 seventh grade male runners and Mosteller finished with a time of 14:41 placing 2nd, Peterson finished the race in 6th place with a time of 15:31, and Nolte placed 23rd finishing with a time of 17:39. Mosteller and Peterson both medaled in the race. Presley Lutz ran the course with a time of 18:35 finishing in 6th place out of 37 runners in the seventh grade girls division to earn a medal also.
Cross country coach Jon Thomas thought the cross country athletes finished really well at this middle school meet. The runners still have plenty of room to improve their times and get better throughout the season.
Nolte said, “I really enjoyed the competition.”
