The kindergarten students loaded the bus and headed on their way to Topeka on Friday, April 21 for their field trip. The students went to the Topeka Zoo where they spent the school day going through the zoo exhibits and looking at all the animals.
Once the kindergarteners arrived, they had a small snack before going in. Next, they split into groups to spread out to check out all the zoo had to offer. They participated in many of the zoo’s activities and saw all the different types of animals. The Topeka zoo has several exhibits for the kindergarten students to see. A couple of these exhibits are Camp Cowabunga which includes lions, ostriches, and leopard turtles. The Animals and Man exhibit features small animals such as cape porcupines and black and white ruffed lemurs. The Animals and Man building also serves as an indoor house for the hippopotamus, African elephants, and giraffes. These are just two of the many exhibits the kindergarteners viewed.
Kaiden Hiltibrand said, “My favorite animals were the hippos.”
The kindergarten students then ate sack lunches at the zoo after viewing the animals. After the students had eaten their lunches, they left the zoo and traveled to the Holton park. Once they played at the park for a while, they loaded the bus and went back home. Overall the students thought the zoo was a fun and interesting experience.
Karoline Koch said, “I liked the tire swing at the Holton park.”
