Kids in front of recycling

The second graders at Nemaha Central Elementary School went to the recycling center on Wednesday, April 26. The students went to learn about the importance of recycling and Tyler Dalinghaus from the Nemaha County Recycling Center talked to them about what they do with all the recyclable products. He taught them how to sort the recycling and showed them where the recyclables go when the bins are full.

Mr. Dalinghaus told them how the recyclables are used to make items in the future. He also mentioned how many boxes it takes to make a recycling bale and brought in some bales to show them what they look like and how much they weigh. He had a recycling truck there to show how he uses it to pick up cardboard in Seneca and in neighboring communities.

Colton Ross said, “I couldn't believe how much some of the stuff weighed after they put it in a bale.”

Second graders really enjoyed learning about recycling. To conclude the activities they brought an item in and got to place it in the right bin. Overall learning about the recycling center was a fun experience for the second graders.

“It was fun and the recycling truck was cool,” said Carly Lueger.
