Students watch as a vet works with a dog

On February 27-28, the Nemaha Central 8th graders went to various businesses to learn more about jobs and possible careers in the Seneca area. The businesses that hosted students included Bruna Implement Company, Bergman Remodeling, Whittaker Eye Associates, Allie’s Cafe, Stepping Stones, Emergency Management Services, Honeyman Ford, Seneca Furniture, Nemaha Central Veterinary Clinic, S & S Automotive, Picture This, Rainbow Communications, Sweet Peas, and Nemaha Central Schools.

For a couple of hours in the morning, students were split into groups of  2 to 5 people and went to the businesses of their choice. Students had options ranging from agriculture to health care, and many returned to school with positive feedback.

When asked about the opportunity to job shadow, Brady Koch said, “It is fun exploring new places and learning from new people."

Another classmate, Emma Hermesch said, “It was very interesting and helpful."

Job shadows are a good way for students to explore options for their future careers. Most would agree, it was a favorite part of their 8th-grade year.
