The Nemaha Central Middle School boys basketball team battled the Holton Wildcats on Monday, February 13. The boys were hoping to sweep the Wildcats once again. 

The NC eighth grade A-team started hot with 11 points in the first quarter. They stumped the Wildcats, not allowing them any points. The second quarter came around fast. The Thunder burning on all cylinders put up 24 points while holding the Wildcats to 2! The score at halftime was 35-2 Thunder.

The Thunder kept up their pace by scoring 10 points in the third quarter. The Wildcats returned after halftime refreshed as they also put up 10 points, making the score 45-12. The fourth quarter came around and the Thunder only scored 4 points while the Wildcats were able to put up 7 points. The score was 49-19 Thunder at the end of regulation.

The NC B-team started play as they burst out to put up 12 points. The Thunder defense also held the Wildcats to 3 in the first. The Thunder started off slow in the second quarter only scoring 4 points. The Thunder allowed the Wildcats to score 7. The score at halftime was 16-10 Thunder.

After halftime, the Thunder scored 7 points and stumped the Wildcats allowing them 0 points. Going into the fourth quarter, the Thunder continued to put the hammer down. They scored 9 points while allowing the Wildcats 1. The Thunder triumphed over the Wildcats 32-11.

The 7th grade A-team played great in the first quarter. They pummeled the Wildcats by scoring 14 points and only allowing the Wildcats 2 points. The second quarter rolled around as the Thunder put up 8 points while the Wildcats matched them with 8. That made the score at halftime 22-10.

Both teams were hot after halftime. The Thunder scored 10 points while allowing the Wildcats 10 too. There was no sign of slowing down in the fourth as the Thunder scored 12 points. The Wildcats tried to complete the tough comeback but came up short. They put up 10 points making the final score 44-30 Thunder.

The 7th grade B-team started hot. They put up 10 points while allowing the Wildcats 2 points. When the second quarter came around, the Thunder was ready as they scored 6 points while allowing a meager 2 points for the Wildcats. The score was 16-4 at the end of the half.

The start of the third quarter was perfect for the Thunder as they scored 11 points. They held the Wildcats to 3 points to maintain their vigorous lead. The fourth quarter came around quickly as the Thunder only scored 4. The Wildcats took the fourth quarter as they added 7 points. It wouldn’t be enough as the score at the end of regulation would be 31-14 Thunder.

Landon Mady said, “It was a great learning experience and I’m glad we won.”

The Thunder basketball teams had a great night of basketball.  Both grades won both of their games. The Thunder swept the Wildcats once again.
